A benefit for The assists foundation
Bill and Cindy Self established the Assists Foundation in 2006 to help provide young people access to better lives. The mission of Assists is accomplished by identifying areas of need and working with other community-based institutions to provide creative and lasting solutions.
The Assists Foundation diligently seeks support to endow scholarship funds, help community organizations improve their facilities and programs and teach young people how to live healthy, productive lives. With the help of our partners, young people will have access to healthy lifestyle programs, facilitated by components of education, assessments, prevention, leadership, and competition. These efforts will provide new and safe places to play, as well as a lifetime of benefits for Kansas families. Our goal is to ensure that the children we raise today have the necessary resources to be successful now and in the future.
Assists is committed to building scholarship endowment funds for both Kansas City, Kansas public schools and Lawrence public schools that will allow committed students to continue and complete their educational goals. Assists provides four (4) $2,500 scholarships each year for both school districts. The scholarships can be accessed through the high school counselors and are renewable for each recipient for up to four years. We have awarded 32 students since 2009 and are proud to be the first four-year scholarships offered in both districts.
Assists strives to build relationships with organizations around the state of Kansas. While we remain committed to our long-term fundraising goals, we are also committed to awarding grants throughout the community in which we live and work. Ten grant awards of $3,000 each are distributed annually based upon need and the advancement of the mission of Assists. To date, over 35 grants have been awarded.
